Comment Ali Abbasi was born in 1981 in Iran. In 2002 he gave up his studies at Teheran Polytechnic University and travelled to Europe, where he settled in Stockholm, Sweden. In 2007 he graduated with a BA in Architecture and subsequently began studying as a film director at The National Film School of Denmark, graduating in 2011.
Ali’s first feature film "Shelley" premiered in the Berlinale Panorama section in 2016. His second feature, the fantasy-drama “Border”, won the top prize in the Un Certain Regard at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
“Holy Spider” is Ali Abbasi’s third feature film. The film will have its world premiere in the Main Competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2022.
