Production supports since May

PRODUCTION SUPPORTS. Niels Arden Oplev directs his first Danish film in several years, Mikkel Nørgaard is making his second thriller, and there are also a few first-time feature directors on the list. These new feature film projects have received production support from the Danish Film Institute since May.

After directing the pilot of CBS' "Under the Dome", Niels Arden Oplev has returned to Denmark to helm the coming-of-age drama Racewalking (Kapgang),set in the mid-70s, about a teenager dealing with adolescence and his mother's sudden death. The cast includes "Borgen"'s Sidse Babett Knudsen. Thomas Heinesen is producing for Nordisk Film.

Ole Christian Madsen ("Superclásico", "Flame & Citron") is developing Itsi Bitsi, an impossible love story set in the unbridled 1960s. Madsen has written the screenplay with Bo hr. Hansen. Lars Bredo Rahbek is producing for Nimbus Film.

Having directed "Where the Devil Hides" (out this fall), and "The Roommate" in Hollywood, Christian E. Christiansen is back in Denmark to helm On the Edge (Lev stærkt). Louise Vesth, Senia Dremstrup and Jakob Balslev are producing for Zentropa.

Christina Rosendahl is shooting her second feature film, The Idealist (Idealisten), a political thriller exposing one of the worst cover-ups in the history of the Cold War in Denmark. Jonas Frederiksen and Signe Leick Jensen are producing this first film by Toolbox Film, founded in 2011 by Morten Kaufmann and Signe Leick Jensen.

The Absent One (Fasandræberne) by Mikkel Nørgaard is the second installment based on Jussi Adler-Olsen's bestselling crime novels about detective Carl Mørck. The director premiered with his first film in the series, "The Keeper of Lost Causes", at the film festival in Locarno. Louise Vesth and Jonas Bagger are producing for Zentropa.

Lars Mikkelsen, actor in "The Killing" and "Borgen" and soon in BBC's "Sherlock", is to play in Jonas Arnby's feature debut When Animals Dream (Når dyret vågner), a gothic thriller about Marie who can't help feeling that her father is hiding something about her mother's mysterious illness. Ditte Milsted and Caroline Schlüter Bingestam are producing for Alphaville Pictures Copenhagen.

Malta – All Inclusive is the title of Hella Joof's new comedy about two sisters who travel to Malta with their mother to celebrate her 60th birthday after she has just been abandoned by her husband, their father. Mie Andreasen is producing for Happy Ending Film.

Fenar Ahmad is making his feature debut with Fuck Being Famous (Fuck at være kendt), a film about a young rap talent trying to follow his dreams, supported through DFI's talent programme New Danish Screen. Morten Kjems Juhl is producing for Beofilm, and co-producing is Nina Bisgaard for Metafilm, a new company run by Lars von Trier's former producer Meta Louise Foldager.

Due to climate changes a new race of flesh-eating predators have risen and are roaming through the streets in Martin Barnewitz's thriller Danny's Doomsday (Dannys dommedag). Christian Potalivo and Caroline Blanco are producing for Miso Film.

Mikkel Serup is directing his first feature, the comedy The Reunion 2 – The Funeral (Klassefesten 2 – Begravelsen), after having signed the TV series "The Protectors" and "The Killing 3" as concept director. Tomas Radoor and René Ezra are producing for Nordisk Film.

Frederikke Aspöck, whose feature debut "Out of Bounds" was selected for Cannes in 2011, is developing her second feature, the drama Lillebror (translates as "Little Brother"). Thomas Heinesen is producing for Nordisk Film.

Hans Fabian Wullenweber, who was behind several episodes of the hit series "The Killing", is concept director of Badehotellet (translates as "The Seaside Hotel"), a six-part drama series set in the 1920s following life in an idyllic seaside hotel. The project has received funding from the Public Service Fund, DFI's support programme for quality TV fiction and documentaries. Michael Bille Frandsen is producing for TV 2 and SF Film Production.
